Winter Edition 2024

Over the colder months the LTYC and Lake Taupo have been a bit quieter, but we’ve still seen a few splashes of action. Our trailer sailors faced off in a chilly winter series, while a dedicated few traveled to Ohope for the Kings Birthday Centerboard Regatta—hats off to you all!

With a new committee at the helm, we’re in good hands as we sail into the 2024/2025 season. There is still plenty of work going on behind the scenes, and we thank the committee for their ongoing commitment to LTYC.

Don’t forget the working bee this weekend, 31st August. The more hands the better!

So, grab your coziest blanket or put on your onesie, make yourself a warm drink, and join us in keeping the spirit of sailing alive through these colder months by reading this short update of activities.

Thank you to all members who supported the Kiwi Cup fundraiser for our 420 sailors. We sold 72 tickets and made $700 for next seasons sailing teams

Lake Taupo Yacht Club Calendar

The calendar on our website is up to date with all our events, upcoming regattas and fundraising activities. It has been fairly quiet over winter, but as we head towards the new season you will see more updates so be sure to check it out.

Trailer Yacht Winter Series

Well done to all of the trailer yacht sailors who raced in the Winter Series. We had 10 yachts race over the series and successfully completed 7 races. Congratulations to Eskypade, skippered by Chris Johnson with his crew Bruce, Culum and Calida who took out the series. A full set of results can be found by following the link below.

We wish our LTYC young sailors attending the September Aims Games the best of luck. Sail well Hugo and Alex (representing Taupo Intermediate) and Christopher and Patrick (representing St Patrick’s).

My Tūrangawaewae

My special place has summer birds tweeting happily as the waves wash the beach gently.

Boats communicate with each other when coming out of the chaotic river harbour.

My special place is where the sail boats go out on the water as the sun sets and dances hip hop style to the west and kids talk together.

My special place makes me feel proud and at home.

My special place is Taupō Yacht Club.
