Commodores ReportAs the summer season is in full swing, we head into three of the club's major regattas for the year. We kick things off with the Bayley’s Centre Board Regatta on the 8th and 9th of March, followed by the Central North Island (CNI) 420 Regatta two weeks later, and then the Sports Boat and Flying Fifteen Regatta the weekend after. These events are a vital part of the club’s calendar as they bring in competitors from across the country to race in our “playpen”. Not only do they provide exciting competition, but they also serve as a major source of funds for the upkeep and improvement of our equipment and facilities. Any assistance you can provide during these events would be greatly appreciated. We still have some roles to fill, so please reach out to the event organisers or myself if you have time to help out. There is also a Centre Board Regatta coming up in Tauranga this weekend, the 22nd. It would be fantastic to have some club representatives there. Don’t forget to promote our upcoming regattas while you're at it! On the club front, the committee has decided to sell P9. It’s showing signs of wear after years of dedicated use, and we’re looking to replace it with an alloy-hull vessel, which will handle the wear and tear better than the current fiberglass. I’ve recently rewired the vessel and got everything back in working order. I’d like to congratulate Dave Keys, who competed in the Masters Games in Wanganui and placed second in his age group. Well done, Dave! A big shout-out to Hippy and his crew, who competed in the Bay of Islands Sailing Week Regatta and took home the top prize once again for the Magic 25s. Congratulations to you all! Rumor has it many of the Magic boats will be returning to Taupo to try and take the title from you at our upcoming regatta – it should be an exciting competition! The Ice Cream Sails to Two Mile Sailing Centre have been very well supported, with a good-sized team making the trips and having fun in different boats each time. It’s been fantastic to see so many different boats and combinations of crews using the club’s boats. A special thanks goes to Rob Kent, Phillip Kidson, and the maintenance team who have put in a lot of hard work to keep the fleet in great shape. Your dedication has been invaluable, and we can’t thank you enough. Members, please be mindful of club security. Do not share the access code publicly (including club chats), and always ensure that you move off the code when locking padlocks. Double-check that the club is completely secure before leaving. These simple precautions are vital in maintaining the safety and integrity of our facilities. For health and safety reasons, all trailer yachts, patrol, and safety boat operators are reminded to sign on with the tower before going out. If you don’t get a response, please double-check that they’ve heard you. As per the handbook, you will not receive your results if you do not sign on.
