Aims Sailing with Chris and Pat

Christopher and Patrick proudly represented the LTYC at the September 2023 Aims Games in Tauranga.  There were plenty of nerves on the start line.  They were very impressed with the skill of many sailors who were clearly well trained and well equipped.  Conditions were cold and windy with consistent 15 to 20 knot winds over the 3 days of sailing.  It was challenging on the first day as the wind was decent and ocean harbour conditions were a little different to our Lake Taupo happy place.  But both boys gained confidence as the regatta continued and finished day 3 with smiles and lots more confidence.

Both Chris and Pat sailed in the silver fleet against a mixture of year 7 and 8 boys and girls.  They were 4th and 5th of the year 7 boys in their division and middle of the pack over all.  It was a fantastic experience for the boys and they can’t wait to give it another go next year.

It was an epic week for the boys…interschools cross country Monday, skiing the mighty Ruapehu Wednesday, off to Aims games Saturday and for the grand finale, turning a big 12 years old 2 days later.  Living the dream!

Chris and Pat would like to thank all of the adults who have given lots of helpful tips and guidance over the last 3 years. A special thanks to big brother Michael for the many tips and pre-race briefing.  An extra big thanks to dad for team support crew on the water.
